ABOUT HHRPAC

Los Angeles PAC Mission

Announcing the formation of a political action committee to bring the voice of publicly insured and uninsured patients into the political process.

Health is a right, not a privilege

There is increasing recognition, in both the health and political arenas – that health and the social determinants which impact it – must be a major focus of policy makers. Historically, the American healthcare system has focused on expensive specialty care and treatment to the detriment of primary care, prevention and population health improvement. Hence the United States ranks 42nd in life expectancy and has health
outcomes inferior to most industrialized nations.

Health & Human Rights PAC (political action committee) aims to change this policy dynamic by building an organization of publicly-insured and uninsured residents to engage in politics, policy and advocacy (and financially support political candidates) to advance the perspective that health is a fundamental human right. It is not a commodity to be sold or profited from – it is the most fundamental of basic human rights.

While the passage of the Affordable Care Act helped to reprioritize many unbalanced health policies and provide health insurance to over 10 million more Americans, we still have far to go to ensure that those who benefited from the Medicaid expansion and those who remain uninsured – build power and effect social change toward an equitable health system in the United States.

Health & Human Rights PAC is determined to bring the voice of healthcare patients, public health activists and health advocates into the political process. It will build membership and raise funds to support legislation and candidates for office who agree that health is a fundamental human right and  understand the role of social determinants in  impacting the health of our city, state and nation.
